//-->Romance LinguisticsEditorial StatementRoutledge publish the Romance Linguistics series under the editorship of MartinS Harris(University of Essex) and Nigel Vincent (University of Manchester).Romance Philogy and General Linguistics have followed sometimes convergingsometimes diverging paths over the last century and a half. With the present series wewish to recognise and promote the mutual interaction of the two disciplines. The focus isdeliberately wide, seeking to encompass not only work in the phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, and lexis of the Romance languages, but also studies in the historyof Romance linguistics and linguistic thought in the Romance cultural area. Some of thevolumes will be devoted to particular aspects of individual languages, some will becomparative in nature; some will adopt a synchronic and some a diachronic slant; somewill concentrate on linguistic structures, and some will investigate the socioculturaldimensions of language and language use in the Romance-speaking territories. Yet allwill endorse the view that a General Linguistics that ignores the always rich and oftenunique data of Romance is as impoverished as a Romance Philogy that turns its back onthe insights of linguistics theory.Other books in the Romance Linguistics series include:Structures and TransformationsChristopher J.PountainStudies in the Romance Verbeds Nigel Vincent and Martin HarrisWeakening Processes in the History of Spanish ConsonantsRaymond Harris-NorthallSpanish Word FormationM.F.LangTense and TextDulcie EngelVariation and Change in FrenchJohn Green and Wendy Ayres-BennettLatin Syntax and SemanticsHarm PinksterThematic Theory in SyntaxRobin ClarkTense and NarrativitySusanne FleischmanComparative Constructions in Spanish and French SyntaxSusan PriceLatin and the Romance Languages in the Early Middle AgesRoger WrightAlso of interest:The Romance LanguagesMartin Harris and Nigel VincentThe Rhaeto-Romance LanguagesJohn HaimanandPaola BenincàLondon and New YorkFirst published in 1992 by Routledge 11 New Fetter Lane, London EC4P 4EEThis edition published in the Taylor & Francis e-Library, 2005.To purchase your own copy of this or any of Taylor & Francis or Routledge’s collection ofSimultaneously published in the USA and Canada by Routledge a division of Routledge,Chapman and Hall, Inc. 29 West 35th Street, New York, NY 10001© 1992 John Haiman and Paola BenincàAll rights reserved.
